Don’t Let a Crisis Completely Derail Your Business

Don’t Let a Crisis Completely Derail Your Business

There is no shortage of events that can throw a business off track, from severe storms to human error to cybercriminal activity. Fortunately, a little preparation can make them much easier to navigate.

Let’s discuss creating a crisis plan to address these kinds of events.

Step 1: Identify Potential Threats and Issues

The list of situations that could impact your business goes on and on, and while many are more likely than others, you need to be prepared for any of them. In order to readily address your biggest risks, establish which are the most likely and focus on them first, moving on to more minor threats once they have been addressed.

Step 2: Plan to Address Your Risks

Your strategy needs to involve two separate plans:

  • Business Continuity Plan - This covers who’s in charge of what, how to get operations back up and running, and the means to access backup data.
  • Emergency Response Plan - This covers immediate safety measures like evacuation routes, emergency contacts, and first aid supplies.

Having these plans prepared will help ensure that you are ready to go should something happen.

Step 3: Practice Makes Perfect

Finally, your entire team needs to be on board and prepared for the potential that one of these events does happen. Train everyone on the proper procedures and drill them until they are effectively second nature. Your priority should always be the safety of your team members; only then should the focus be on resuming business operations.
